Quick Overview: Riedel Veritas Oaked Chardonnay glass - machine-blown lead-free crystal with a 655ml wide bowl for oaked Chardonnay, white Burgundy, Meursault and Montrachet. Dishwasher safe. Available in sets of 2 or 4.

Riedel Veritas Oaked Chardonnay Glass

The Riedel Veritas Oaked Chardonnay glass is part of the Veritas collection introduced in 2014, designed to Georg J. Riedel's brief for machine-blown lead-free crystal that is 15% taller and 25% lighter than the Vinum range whilst remaining fully dishwasher safe. Available in sets of 2 or 4.

The 655ml bowl is wide and open-mouthed - a deliberately different shape from the more upright Riesling/Zinfandel glass in the same collection. Riedel's design rationale is specific: full-bodied white wines like oaked Chardonnay and white Burgundy carry a multi-layered aromatic profile that benefits from space to develop. The wide bowl provides that space, allowing the bouquet to open fully. The open mouth is equally intentional - in a richer white wine, an overly narrow rim concentrates the alcohol and oak character disproportionately; the wider opening keeps those elements in balance with the fruit.

  • 655ml wide, open-mouthed bowl: Designed to develop the rich, layered aromas of oaked Chardonnay and white Burgundy whilst keeping alcohol and oak in proportion
  • Focused wine list: Riedel recommends this glass for oaked Chardonnay, Burgundy Blanc, Meursault, Montrachet, Corton-Charlemagne, Pouilly-Fuissé and oaked Morillon
  • Machine-blown precision: Consistent bowl geometry across every glass in a set
  • 15% taller, 25% lighter than Vinum
  • Dishwasher safe: Fully confirmed by Riedel
  • Available in sets of 2 or 4

This glass suits those who drink white Burgundy, premier or grand cru Chardonnay, or oaked new-world Chardonnay regularly and want a glass calibrated to bring out the texture and aromatic complexity those wines are built for.

What Customers Ask About the Riedel Veritas Oaked Chardonnay Glass

Which wines is this glass designed for?

Riedel designed this glass specifically for full-bodied, oaked white wines. The recommended list is focused: oaked Chardonnay, Burgundy Blanc, Meursault, Montrachet, Corton-Charlemagne, Pouilly-Fuissé, and oaked Morillon. The common thread is richness, texture, and aromatic complexity developed through oak ageing or full malo-lactic fermentation. For unoaked or lighter-bodied white wines - Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, lighter Chardonnay - the Veritas Riesling/Zinfandel glass is the more appropriate choice within the Veritas range.

What pack sizes are available?

This glass is available in sets of 2 or 4. Please select your preferred pack size from the variants on this page. Because Veritas is machine-blown, every glass is produced to identical specifications, so you can add to your set at any time without concern about variation between pieces.

How does this compare to the Veritas Riesling/Zinfandel glass for white wine?

The two glasses are designed for different white wine styles and the difference is meaningful. The Riesling/Zinfandel shape (409ml) is more upright and focused, designed for high-acid, aromatic whites where freshness and mineral precision are the priority. The Oaked Chardonnay shape (655ml) is wider and more open-mouthed, designed for richer, fuller-bodied whites where aromatic development and texture matter more than acidity management. If your white wine is predominantly Riesling, Gruner Veltliner, or unoaked styles, the Riesling/Zinfandel glass is the right choice. If it is predominantly oaked Chardonnay or white Burgundy, this is the glass Riedel recommends.

How does this compare to the Sommeliers Chablis/Chardonnay glass?

The Sommeliers Chablis/Chardonnay glass (350ml, mouth-blown in Austria) is Riedel's premier handmade white wine shape, designed for Chablis, Chardonnay of any age, and mature Bordeaux. The Veritas Oaked Chardonnay (655ml, machine-blown) applies varietal-specific design principles for richer, oaked white wine styles at a lower price point with the practical advantages of dishwasher safety and consistent machine precision. The Sommeliers shape is smaller and more restrained in its aeration; the Veritas shape is built specifically around the bigger, richer character of oaked Chardonnay. Both are sound choices for white Burgundy - the decision comes down to budget, occasion, and how carefully you want to treat your glasses.

Is this glass dishwasher safe?

Yes - Riedel confirms the Veritas collection is fully dishwasher safe. Use a gentle cycle at no more than 55°C. The wide bowl means spacing is particularly important - ensure glasses cannot knock against each other or the dishwasher rack. Avoid heavily abrasive or lemon-scented detergents, which can cloud crystal over time. Remove promptly at the end of the cycle. Handwashing will maintain crystal clarity for longer, but machine washing is entirely practical for everyday use.

Why Oaked Chardonnay Needs a Different Glass

The distinction between the Veritas Oaked Chardonnay and Riesling/Zinfandel shapes illustrates one of the more useful applications of varietal-specific glassware. Both are white wine glasses in the same collection, but they are built around fundamentally different wine structures.

Unoaked and aromatic whites - Riesling, Gruner Veltliner, lighter Chardonnay - have pronounced primary fruit character and high acidity as their defining features. A more upright, focused bowl preserves those aromatics and manages the acidity. Oaked Chardonnay and white Burgundy at serious levels have something different going on: secondary aromas from barrel fermentation and ageing, textural weight from malo-lactic fermentation, and a richer, more layered aromatic profile that benefits from generous space to develop. The wide, open-mouthed bowl of the Oaked Chardonnay glass is designed for exactly that - room to breathe, without the concentration that a narrower rim would impose on already-rich wine.

Care & Use Instructions

Dishwasher (Fully Supported): Riedel confirms the Veritas collection is dishwasher safe. Use a gentle cycle at no more than 55°C. The wide bowl requires generous spacing in the upper rack - ensure glasses cannot knock against each other or the dishwasher frame. Avoid lemon-scented or heavily abrasive detergents, which can cloud crystal over time. Remove promptly at the end of the cycle and allow to air dry briefly with the door open.

Serving Temperature: Oaked Chardonnay and white Burgundy are typically best served between 12-15°C - slightly warmer than lighter whites to allow the aromatic complexity to express itself. A wine served too cold from the refrigerator will suppress the secondary aromas this glass is designed to reveal. Allow 10-15 minutes out of the fridge before serving if the wine has been chilled to standard refrigerator temperature.

Handwashing: Use warm water and a small amount of mild detergent. The wide, open bowl is easy to clean with a soft cloth or sponge. Hold the glass by the base and never twist the bowl whilst holding the stem. Rinse thoroughly and dry immediately with a lint-free microfibre or linen cloth.

Polishing: Hold the base firmly in one hand and polish the bowl with a lint-free cloth in the other. The wide mouth makes polishing straightforward. Do not grip both base and bowl simultaneously as this creates torsional stress on the stem.

Storage: Store upright and never stacked or rim-down. The wider bowl requires more shelf depth than the Riesling/Zinfandel shape - check cupboard clearance before purchasing a set of 4. Ensure glasses cannot knock together when stored.

If your desired country is not listed (USA, Australia etc.) this is most likely because couriers charge by "Volumetric Weight" i.e. a combination of how large and how heavy the package is.

Please note that any overseas shipment is at your own risk and you will hence need to take out insurance to cover any damage in transit.

Customs forms for all international packages list the value of the contents as well as a description of the items. Any customs or import duties levied once the package reaches your country must be borne by you. Your local customs office will be able to provide you with further information.

I want to return an unwanted item.

If an item is unwanted, it can be returned to us for a no-quibble refund. The item(s) must be in a resaleable condition, and in their original packaging.

Please wrap or box items appropriately for transit to avoid damage to goods or boxes.

Please do not stick labels or tape directly to the products packaging (e.g. branded box) as if it is damaged in any way, we can no longer accept the return.

The best way to pack items is by re-using the outer packing material (bubble wrap) and box that we used when sending your package originally.

If the product returned is not in fully resalable condition, or the branded box is damaged, we will apply our half-price replacement guarantee and credit you or refund you for half the original price of the item.

Customers are responsible for the cost of returning item(s), and we suggest using a recorded or signed for delivery service so the parcel is insured and can be tracked.

Goods are the customer’s responsibility until they arrive at our address.
