The Hidden Gems: Your Guide to Our Website's Secret Weapons

I’ve got something a little different for you this week.

Even though last Thursday was International Rosé Day, and Monday is International Pinot Noir Day, I’m not going to write about either of those.

Partly because I already have done (here and here, respectively) but mainly because I want to tell you about some stuff I’ve been working on in the background.

I've been busy.

While you've (hopefully) been enjoying my weekly musings about wine and glassware, I've been beavering away behind the scenes, building a collection of digital tools designed to solve the questions I actually get asked every week.

·        "Which glass would work best for me?"

·        "What's the real difference between all these collections?"

·        "My existing glasses are 225mm tall - what are they?"

·        "I drink everything from cocktails to Champagne, but only want to buy one glass - help!"

I realised that there were definite themes to many of the questions posed, so I decided to create some rather clever tools that do the heavy lifting for you. Think of them as having me on tap, ready to guide you through the decisions without the back-and-forth emails.

The best part?

They're all free, they're surprisingly smart, and they'll save you from the glazed-eye experience of staring at dozens of glass options wondering where to start.

So here’s your personal tour of the tools that'll make you look like a wine glass expert, even if you're still figuring out the difference between Burgundy and Bordeaux.

The Wine Glass Personality Quiz: Because Your Wine, & Glass, Should Match Your Vibe

Find it here: Wine Glass Personality Quiz

This isn't some frivolous "What Disney Princess Are You?" quiz. This is serious business disguised in seven quick questions that'll pinpoint exactly which glass reflects your actual drinking habits and lifestyle.

Why You'll Love It: Instead of drowning in dozens of varietal-specific options, the quiz cuts through the noise by understanding how you actually live with wine. Do you host formal dinner parties or prefer relaxed kitchen conversations? Are you building a collection or need one perfect glass for everything?

The Magic Moment: When it tells you you're "The Practical Rebel" and recommends the Grape collection because you want excellent experiences without complexity. Or when you discover you're "The Aesthetic Adventurer" who needs the conversation-starting Winewings range.

Real Guidance: Rather than spend twenty minutes agonising over glass choices, take this quiz and immediately know exactly what you want. It's like having a wine glass therapy session that actually solves your problems.

The Riedel Range Finder: Your Personal Glass Consultant

Find it here: Riedel Range Finder Quiz

Eight questions that work like a sophisticated filter, narrowing down our entire Riedel universe to the one collection that suits your wine preferences, budget, and lifestyle.

The Brilliant Bit: It doesn't just suggest glasses - it explains why. The Superleggero collection isn't just recommended; you understand it's because you appreciate refinement but want practical durability. The Grape collection isn't randomly assigned; it's recommended because you drink various styles but don't want a glass mountain.

Why This Matters: Ever browsed our collections wondering whether to invest in Sommeliers or stick with Vinum? This quiz eliminates the guesswork by understanding what you actually need from your glassware, not what wine magazines think you should want.

The Outcome: You'll finish knowing exactly which range deserves your money, complete with personality insight: "The Quality Seeker - You want the best of both worlds: refined aesthetics and practical durability."

The Complete Range Guide: Your Riedel Encyclopaedia

Find it here: Complete Riedel Range Guide

This is my love letter to every Riedel collection we sell, written for people who want to understand what they're buying before they buy it.

What Makes It Special: Real talk about each collection's strengths, pricing, and ideal uses. I don't just list features - I tell you why the Extreme collection genuinely improves bold wines, why Veloce feels handmade despite being machine-produced, and how the Grape collection represents "maximum coverage with minimum complexity."

The Practical Details: Care instructions, price comparisons, and honest assessments. Plus my personal insights from years of selling and using these glasses.

Why You Need This: Real talk about strengths, ideal uses, pricing, and care instructions, plus my personal insights from years of selling and using these glasses. Buying wine glasses shouldn’t feel like you need a PhD. This guide gives clarity.

The Glass Search & Compare Tool: For Finding Which Glasses You Already Have

Find it here: Glass Search & Compare

Compare up to three glasses side-by-side. Find exact matches for glasses you already own, or compare similar glasses to help you decide which one is best for you.

Ideal for:

  • Replacing broken glasses with exact matches
  • Comparing similar glasses before buying
  • Finding glasses that fit your cabinet height

The Hidden Genius: The search function finds "close matches" when exact ones don't exist. Looking for 225mm height? It'll show you options between 222mm and 227mm that you might never have discovered browsing normally.

Real-World Application: Our most frequent enquiry is from customers trying to find which glasses they already own and, for one reason or another, (usually a washing up mishap) they need to replenish their collection. With just two easy measurements (height & capacity) the most likely glasses are revealed.

Of all our digital “tools” I’m most pleased with this one. Not least because, when I showed Em (my other half, Art of Living’s General Manager and Manager of the Reigate Shop) she used it, within the hour, to help one of her customers find which Bordeaux glass she needed to complete her set.

There and then.

Previously, this would have meant an email, with pictures, to me. Me having a trawl through my “Riedel Bible”, then emailing the customer back with suggestions and links to product pages.

How to Accurately Measure Height & Capacity

The easiest way to accurately measure the height of a glass is with two rulers.

Or one ruler and any straight edge.

Put your glass on a flat surface with a straight edge across the top, then measure between the surface and the straight edge, making sure to keep your measuring ruler as vertical as possible.

So here we can see that the Veritas Syrah glass is exactly 235mm.

To measure the capacity, fill your glass to the brim with water and carefully pour into a measuring jug.

Simple.

Match the Glass: The Quick Wine-to-Glass Decoder

Find it here: Match the Glass

Sometimes you just want a fast answer: "I drink Pinot Noir - which glass should I use?"

This tool cuts straight to the answer.

Perfect For:

  • Quick decisions for tonight’s wine
  • Understanding why your wine might taste different in various glasses
  • Building a collection that covers your actual drinking habits
  • Impressing dinner guests with glass selections that work

The Simplicity Factor: No lengthy explanations about rim diameter and bowl shape. Just: "You're drinking Chardonnay? Use this glass. Here's why it works. Here's where to buy it."

Why These Tools Matter

Buying wine glasses online can feel like shooting in the dark. You're investing in something that'll sit on your table for years, making thousands of small interactions with wine better or worse.

These tools eliminate the guesswork. They're like having a knowledgeable shop assistant who remembers your previous questions, understands your budget, and genuinely wants you to buy exactly what'll make you happy. This is what we do in our shops and are striving to replicate online.

The Confidence Factor: When you finish the Personality Quiz and it recommends the Veloce collection, you're not wondering if there's something better you've missed. When the Range Finder suggests Grape glasses for your lifestyle, you understand why that'll work for you specifically.

The Time-Saving Element: Instead of browsing 200+ glasses hoping something jumps out, these tools narrow your focus to the handful that actually suit your needs. Then you can spend time comparing the suggested options rather than being overwhelmed by every possibility.

The Educational Bonus: You'll finish understanding not just what to buy, but why it's right for you. That knowledge makes you more confident selecting your glasses and more satisfied with your investment.

How to Actually Use Them (Because I Know You Won't Unless I'm Specific)

Start with the Personality Quiz if you want to understand your wine drinking style and get pointers toward specific recommendations.

Use the Range Finder if you know you want Riedel but need help choosing between collections.

Browse the Complete Guide if you're the type who reads reviews before buying anything and wants comprehensive information.

Try the Search & Compare if you have specific requirements (height, capacity) or want to replace existing glasses.

Check Match the Glass when you're buying for specific wines and want quick, confident recommendations.

Pro Tip: Do the Riedel Range Finder Quiz, then use the Complete Guide to read more about your recommended collection. Most people find this gives them everything they need to make confident, informed decisions.

The Bottom Line

These tools exist because I got tired of the same conversations happening repeatedly. Not tired of helping - tired of customers feeling overwhelmed by choices when the right answer for them was sitting there.

Wine glasses should enhance your enjoyment, not complicate your life. These tools ensure you get exactly what'll make your wine taste better and your evenings more pleasurable.

They're free, they're fast, and they're designed by someone who's spent years helping people navigate exactly these decisions.

The only question is: which one will you try first?

P.S. Found this helpful? The tools are always available in the "Inspiration & Advice" section of our main menu, under "Guides, Tools & Quizzes" - bookmark them for future reference, and feel free to share them with anyone else drowning in wine glass choices.
