Black Velvet Cocktail
Cocktail
Dark, smooth and a little bit gothic.
Cold stout floated over crisp, dry sparkling wine, in a glass that shows off both layers. A British classic with a blackberry "spider" for Halloween.

Bartender's notes
The classic ratio is half sparkling wine, half stout, so it scales up or down easily. Every stout foams a little differently, so do a test pour first. A can with a widget foams more than a bottled stout, and if you'd like less head, pour the stout into a jug and let it settle for a minute before floating it.
For a cheaper version, swap the sparkling wine for dry cider. For an alcohol-free version, use an alcohol-free sparkling wine and stout. The wide, egg-shaped bowl of the Riedel Veritas Champagne Wine Glass shows off both layers, and its sparkling point keeps the bubbles moving.
