Riedel Veloce English Sparkling Wine Glasses (Set of 6)

The Riedel Veloce English Sparkling Wine glass was developed, through blind workshops with English sparkling wine producers. Working independently with Exton Park (Hampshire), Squerryes Estate (Kent), and Ridgeview Wine Estate (Sussex), Riedel hosted three separate tasting sessions using wines from each region. Each workshop was conducted independently - and in each case, the same glass was selected by producers as the best-performing option for English sparkling wine.

That glass became this one.

Based on the Riedel Veloce Riesling shape and adapted for sparkling wine with the addition of a sparkling point to aid bubble formation, the glass is designed to develop the complex characteristics of English sparkling wine. The 570ml capacity creates a bowl that allows aromatics to open up, whilst the sparkling point nucleates bubble formation for consistent effervescence throughout the glass. Part of the Veloce range, this set of 6 uses state-of-the-art manufacturing technology from Riedel's own factory to produce glasses that feel handmade but offer the precision and consistency of machine production.

Key features of the Riedel Veloce English Sparkling Wine glass:

  • Producer-validated design: Independently selected as the best-performing glass at three separate workshops with Exton Park, Squerryes Estate, and Ridgeview Wine Estate
  • Riesling-based bowl geometry: Developed from the Riesling shape, which concentrates complex aromatics and manages high acidity - characteristics shared with quality English sparkling wine
  • Sparkling point technology: Nucleation site built into the bowl aids consistent bubble formation and presentation
  • Lighter and finer profile: Veloce's machine-made precision produces a glass with the feel of handmade crystal at a lower price point
  • Base inscription: Each glass features a base inscription of the recommended grape variety
  • Dishwasher safe: Convenient for everyday use without compromising quality
  • Set of 6: Suitable for entertaining or as a complete set for a household

This set suits anyone who takes English sparkling wine seriously - whether you are buying specifically to serve with English fizz, or looking for a high-quality sparkling wine glass that has been validated by producers rather than selected on appearance alone.

What Customers Ask About the Riedel Veloce English Sparkling Wine Glass

Riedel hosted three separate workshops with established English sparkling wine estates: Exton Park in Hampshire, Squerryes Estate in Kent, and Ridgeview Wine Estate in Sussex. Each workshop used wines from that producer's region and was conducted independently of the others. At each session, participants tasted English sparkling wines across a range of Riedel glasses and selected the best performer. The same glass was chosen at all three independent workshops -- based on the Riesling shape, with a sparkling point added for bubble formation. It is the only glass in the Veloce range developed specifically through producer-led validation for English sparkling wine.

A conventional flute was designed to preserve bubbles and showcase colour, but its narrow opening suppresses aromatic expression. English sparkling wine - with its high natural acidity, chalk-derived minerality, and complex fruit and lees character - has a great deal to offer aromatically. The wider Riesling-based bowl on this glass allows those aromatics to develop properly before the wine reaches you. The sparkling point manages bubble formation so you still get a consistent, attractive effervescence without needing the extreme narrowness of a flute.

Yes. The Riesling-based bowl with sparkling point works well for Champagne and other traditional method sparkling wines, particularly those with high acidity and mineral character. English sparkling wine and Champagne share the same grape varieties and production method, so a glass validated for one will perform well with the other. If you serve both styles regularly, this glass is a practical choice for the whole category.

The sparkling point is a small nucleation site built into the bowl interior that encourages consistent bubble formation. Without a nucleation point, bubbles form randomly - with one, you get a steady, attractive stream from a predictable location throughout the life of the glass. It does not affect cleaning: these glasses are dishwasher safe and the sparkling point remains effective through normal domestic use.

Veloce sits in the middle of Riedel's machine-made range - lighter and finer than Vinum, and more accessibly priced than Veritas or Superleggero. The key distinction of this particular glass is that it is the only Riedel sparkling wine glass developed specifically through validated workshops with English sparkling wine producers. If you are buying primarily for English sparkling wine, this is the glass with the most directly relevant provenance. If you are looking for a general-purpose sparkling wine glass at a lower price point, the Riedel Vinum Champagne glass is worth considering.

Why English sparkling wine deserves its own glass

English sparkling wine has moved from curiosity to serious category in roughly two decades. Back-to-back Best in Show wins at Decanter World Wine Awards - the world's largest blind tasting with nearly 17,000 wines entered - confirm what producers and independent judges have been saying for years: the best English sparkling wines are genuinely world-class. The combination of chalk and limestone geology across Hampshire, Kent, and Sussex, cool growing conditions, and traditional method production creates wines with unusually high natural acidity, fine persistent bubbles, and pronounced mineral character.

Riedel's approach with this glass reflects that seriousness. Rather than adapting an existing sparkling wine shape and attaching a label, they worked directly with producers in the key regions - and let those producers choose the glass blind. Three independent workshops. Three separate estates from three different counties. The same glass selected each time. For anyone drinking English sparkling wine with any regularity, that validation is a more reliable basis for glass selection than any claim made from behind a desk.

Care & Use Instructions

Dishwasher use: These glasses are dishwasher safe. Use a gentle cycle, space glasses so they do not touch other items, and avoid heavily abrasive or lemon-scented detergents which can cloud crystal over time. Remove promptly after the cycle and allow to air dry with the door open to prevent water spots.

Handwashing: Use warm water with a small amount of mild detergent. Hold the glass by the base -- never twist the bowl whilst holding the stem. Rinse thoroughly and dry immediately with a lint-free cloth to prevent water spots and maintain clarity.

Polishing: Use a microfibre or linen cloth. Hold the base firmly and polish the bowl with gentle circular motions. For stubborn water spots, a small amount of white vinegar added to the final rinse water usually resolves the issue.

Serving temperature: English sparkling wine is best served at 8 to 10°C. Pour gently rather than aggressively, and give the wine a minute in the glass before drinking -- the sparkling point will establish a consistent bubble stream quickly.

Storage: Store glasses upright, never stacked or rim-down. This prevents chipping to the rim and allows air circulation.
