Spiegelau Definition White Wine Glasses
The Spiegelau Definition White Wine Glasses are machine-made crystal wine glasses designed to suit a variety of white wines. Designed in 2022, the Definition collection builds on two earlier Spiegelau ranges - the Willsberger (1982) and Hybrid (2011) - using proprietary manufacturing technology to produce glasses that are notably thin and light whilst maintaining excellent consistency between pieces.
Spiegelau describes the glass as helping to release the aromas of white wines and to balance fruit and sweetness to provide structure. At 435ml capacity and 228mm in height, the proportions are well suited to white wine service, providing enough bowl space for aeration whilst the stem keeps hand warmth away from the wine.
- Designed for white wine: Spiegelau designed the bowl shape to release aromas and balance fruit and sweetness across a variety of white wine styles
- Thin, lightweight crystal: Proprietary machine-made technology produces a glass that feels refined in hand without sacrificing durability
- 435ml capacity: Well-proportioned for white wine service, providing aeration without excessive bowl size
- Stemmed design: Keeps hand warmth away from the wine during service
- Dishwasher safe: Tested to EN 12875 standards; capable of withstanding 1,000 wash cycles under good operating conditions
These glasses are a considered choice for white wine drinkers who want well-made, purpose-designed stemware that is practical enough for regular use.
What Customers Ask About the Spiegelau Definition White Wine Glasses
Spiegelau designed the Definition White Wine Glass to suit a variety of white wines, describing the glass as helping to release aromas and balance fruit and sweetness to provide structure. This makes it a versatile choice across a broad range of white wine styles. If you have a question about a particular wine, contact us on 01737 222996 and we can advise.
At 228mm tall, these glasses may not fit on the top rack of all dishwashers. Spiegelau recommends using a specialist glassware programme on the lower rack if the top rack does not accommodate the height, or handwashing instead. We suggest measuring your dishwasher's upper rack clearance before loading to avoid any risk of the glasses touching other items or the spray arms.
Yes. The Definition White Wine Glasses are dishwasher safe and have been tested to EN 12875 standards, with clarity and shine maintained over 1,000 wash cycles under good operating conditions. Use a low-temperature programme (50-55°C), ensure the glasses do not touch each other or other items, and open the dishwasher door after the cycle to let moisture escape. Handwashing is always an option if you prefer to extend the life of the glass surface.
The Definition collection is an evolution of two earlier Spiegelau ranges: the Willsberger (1982) and the Hybrid (2011). Using proprietary new manufacturing technology, Definition produces thin, light, machine-made crystal glasses with excellent consistency between pieces. The White Wine Glass was designed in 2022.

Care & Use Instructions
Dishwasher use: At 228mm, these glasses may be too tall for the top rack of some dishwashers - check your clearance before loading. If they do not fit on the top rack, use a specialist glassware programme on the lower rack if your dishwasher has one, or handwash instead. Where the dishwasher is used, ensure glasses have enough space so they do not touch each other, other glasses, or metal items. Select a low-temperature programme at 50-55°C. Do not overdose detergent or rinse aid, and keep the dishwasher topped up with rinse aid and salt matched to your local water hardness. After the cycle, open the door to let steam escape. Do not wash alongside aluminium items, as chemical reactions between aluminium and crystal glass can cause irreversible corrosion.
Handwashing: Wash gently under warm (not hot or boiling) water with a small amount of mild washing-up liquid. Rinse thoroughly with clean water. Use two microfibre polishing cloths for drying - not a tea towel, which can scratch the surface. Never hold the base and bowl at the same time when drying or polishing, as this can place stress on the stem. Avoid drying glasses upside down on a metal rack, as this can damage the rim.
Polishing: Hold the glass under the bowl with one hand using a dry microfibre cloth and use a second cloth to polish the inside and outside carefully. Hold the base separately and polish it with one hand whilst holding it firmly with the other. For water spots, add a small amount of white vinegar or citric acid to the final rinse water to dissolve limescale deposits. Note that glass corrosion - where the glass structure itself is damaged - cannot be reversed, so correct washing practice from the outset is important.
Storage: Store upright in a clean, dry location away from strongly scented items, as crystal glass can absorb surrounding odours which may affect the aroma of wine when the glass is next used. Never stack glasses or store them rim-down. Rinse glasses promptly after use - wine residue can attack the glass surface if left to sit for extended periods.
Microfibre cloths: Wash polishing cloths at 60°C with odourless soap. Do not use fabric softener, and do not tumble dry.

Clouding can have two causes. Limescale or detergent deposits can usually be removed by rinsing with a mild acid such as white vinegar or citric acid solution. Glass corrosion - where the glass structure itself is affected, appearing as a white coating - cannot be reversed. Correct dishwasher settings (appropriate temperature, rinse aid levels, and avoiding aluminium items in the same wash) help prevent corrosion from occurring in the first place.
