Best Bloody Mary Recipe
The Bloody Mary is the ultimate brunch cocktail and the world's favourite savoury drink.
It delivers a balance of sweet, salt, sour and umami flavours that is unlike any other.
Ingredients
- large handful of ice
- 100ml vodka
- 500ml tomato juice
- 1 tbsp lemon juice, plus 2 slices to serve
- few shakes Worcestershire sauce
- few shakes Tabasco
- pinch celery salt
- pinch black pepper
- 2 celery sticks, to serve
Bloody Mary rim salt
- salt
- paprika (I like smoked paprika)
- garlic powder
- onion powder
Method
- Place the ice in a large jug.
- Measure the vodka, tomato juice and lemon juice and pour it straight onto the ice.
- Add 3 shakes of Worcestershire sauce and Tabasco (or more if you like it very spicy) and a pinch of celery salt and pepper.
- Stir gently until the outside of the jug feels cold, then strain the cocktail into 2 tall glasses, rimmed with Bloody Mary rim salt.
- Top up with fresh ice, add a celery stick, olives and lemon slice to both glasses and enjoy.
Bloody Mary rim salt
- Add a teaspoon of each ingredient to a small bowl or jar.
- Give it a mix or a shake!
- Simple.
How to rim your glass
- To rim a glass, rub the cut edge of a lemon wedge around the edge of the glass. The fresh lemon juice imparts some tart flavour and its sticky juice will help the salt and spices to stick.
- Water will not have the same effect and will make your salt rim dissolve more quickly.
- Pour some of the Bloody Mary rim salt mixture onto a small plate.
- Place the glass upside down onto the plate and twist gently to coat the rim.
Cook's notes
If you have any salt leftover, it's great as a rub for chicken, salmon or pork.
